It has been a successful experience to work with greenscreen during the design of a recent multilevel hotel and corporate office building in Seattle, in addition to a new hotel development in Oregon's wine country, where there will be grapevines growing up the stand-alone, curved greenscreen. We installed the greenscreen walls at Studios 5c almost 15 years ago. I was worried at the time about how well the finish would hold up in the Arizona sun. Plus, we’re right next to a college dormitory, and I had concerns that students would try to climb the screens. In fact, we couldn’t be happier with greenscreen. We’ve had zero vandalism problems—no one even attempts to climb it. The finish has held up incredibly well—better than anything else on the exterior of the building. Every visitor we have comments on how spectacular the vines are; it really has become a vertical garden. Architects show up all the time to take pictures. Using greenscreen was probably the single best decision I made in building Studios 5c.

We designed our Step Up on Vine project with greenscreen as a key element in the design. We knew we needed every design component to be essential in our effort to achieve LEED Platinum.

greenscreen did many things: provided a soft, inviting vegetative element to a gritty urban environment, screened the building from harsh sunlight, reduced urban noise for the residents and made a bold visual statement about the client’s commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, during construction we ran into some challenges. I appreciate how quickly and thoroughly you personally helped to resolve our issues. The end result? A visit from both the president of the USGBC to personally bestow LEED Platinum certification and a very impressed former President of the United States!

Our experience working with greenscreen has been stellar. Not only do they make the best and least expensive option on the market for growing vegetation on walls, they also provide that “we’ll do what it takes” level of service in getting greenscreen to the site and working with the contractors to install the product properly.

As a researcher of living architecture and instructor of college students keenly interested in green walls, I can proudly claim that greenscreen has been especially supportive, cooperative and gracious with their support.
